Types of Whiskey

Whiskey or Whisky? The spelling really depends on the country of origin. American liquor producers tend to use "whiskey."

Single Malt

Are distilled at a single distillery and are are aged for at least three years in oak casks. A single malt may contain several whiskies from many barrels as long as it is produced at the same distillery.

Scotch Blends

A blended whiskey is a product that contains a mix of barrel-aged malt and grain whiskies.

Bourbon

A specific type of American whiskey that is made from at least 51% corn and aged in oak barrels. It tends to be sweeter and more mellow than rye or whiskey. More than 95% of the bourbon produced is made in Kentucky.

Rye

A type of whiskey made with a majority of the grain rye. This term refers to either American rye whiskey, made of at least 51% rye mash, or Canadian whisky, which may or may not contain rye. Canadian regulations don’t require it to contain rye, though historically it did.

Matured in European and American Oak casks for it's distinct smoothness. Balanced flavor, with notes of pineapple and vanilla. Long, creamy, smooth finish.

 

Glenficcich 12 year

12 Year

Carefully matured in the finest American oak and European oak sherry casks for at least 12 years, it is mellowed in oak marrying tuns to create its sweet and subtle oak flavours.

Laphroaig 10 year

This is a truly classic single malt Scotch, made from malted barley which is first cold-smoked and then dried over a peat fire. The smoke from the unique Islay peat gives Laphroaig its particular rich flavor. This peated whisky is renowned for its bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.

Whiskey Cocktail Recipes

Deluxe Pineapple Mule

  • 1.5 oz Crown Royal Fine De Luxe
  • .25 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • .75 oz pineapple juice, ginger beer, and a pineapple slice.

Instructions

  1. Add the whisky, maraschino liqueur and pineapple juice to a shaker tin with ice.
  2. Shake and strain into a Moscow Mule mug filled with fresh ice.
  3. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a pineapple slice and enjoy.

Whiskey Old Fashioned Johnnie walker

Old Fashioned

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 0.5 oz. Simple Syrup
  • 2 dashes Aromatic Bitters

Instructions

Mix ingredients, stir in an ice-filled glass. Pour into tumbler. Twist a piece of orange zest over the glass to release the aromatic oils. Garnish with an orange peel or blood orange wedge.
